Kissimmee Special: Bass, Shellcracker

The trophy bass/shellcracker quiniela is an almost sure bet on Lake Kissimmee the next few days.

Whether you head to the lake armed with bass rods or cane poles, the forecast is promising.

"It's going to be a good weekend with the full moon coming. The weather's nice. It might be the best week of the year. It's been so far,'' said Leo Cosce at Camp Lester. "Everything is spawning. That's why it's such a great week.''

Bass weighing 11 1/2 and 11 pounds have already been released this week.

Shellcracker set up shop in the lily pads to spawn on Tuesday.

"There's a lot of limits being caught, and they're real good size,'' Cosce said. "Look for the boats. They're all over the lake.''

While Kissimmee is the headliner, most lakes around Central Florida are prime for bass and panfish, even speckled perch, with the full moon on Saturday.

With spring weather and the wind seeming to take a break, not to mention spring break for students, there's going to be a lot of folks on the water.
